Is it possible to utilize average BALB/c mice to develop a xenograft HT29 tumor?. Is it essential to use nude mice for this purpose?. Please give me some insight for mice xengrafting experiments.
I believe HT-29 xenografts can be done with athymic BALB/c mice (see here: http://altogenlabs.com/xenograft-models/colon-cancer-xenograft/ht29-xenograft-model/). The immune system needs to be lacking in the mice in order for the tumors to grow successfully, but other then that it seems the growth curve is pretty consistent. If you've never done such a xenograft before it might be worth outsourcing it, as I've heard HT-29 can be sensitive in xenografts.
