Greetings,
I am working on detection of pathogenic bacteria in blood of animals in slaughterhouse. Therefore, I seek suggestions on how to aseptically collect blood samples while the animal is slaughtered, as I think collecting blood in a pot and then transferring to the sterile tube does not sound fine.
Secondly, can viable bacteria be isolated from clotted blood sample?
will using citrate phosphate dextrose (CPD) or sodium polyanethol sulfonate (SPS) in the tubes help to avoid blood coagulation for at least few hours during the transport of blood samples? Because EDTA will interfere with the bacterial cell wall while I need to isolate live bacteria.
Your kind suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
