I will be performing cerebral blood flow studies in mice and the majority of publications on this subject say they utilize both urethane and alpha chloralose delivered IP as anesthetic. I understand that isoflurane should not be used since it causes fluctuations in blood pressure, but I cannot figure out why you need both urethane and alpha chloralose since they both have anesthetic qualities. Can anyone tell me why you cannot just use urethane on its own? Thank you
