Hi, Alex, I suggest you to read about Multiple Level Perspective theories on sustainability transition (mainly Frank Geels' papers). MLP is about complex relationships between forms of sustainable technologies, how they are conceived in niches (microlevel), then translated to consumption scenery (regimes, sociotechnical and political), and to landscape (macrolevel) perspective.  I am aware that MLP has also a significant criticism burden, but it provides some first steps to understand such complex relationships (between sustainable production and consumption). We need to beware that patterns of sustainable production are easier to study than patterns of sustainable consumption, because consumers are more sensitive to quick changes, pressures, opinions, fashions, and so on. Entrepreneurship can be exercised schematically in two ways: 1- following the dictates of efficiency and effectiveness; 2) creating a socially and environmentally responsible company.

The first way was followed in the stage of  strong industrialization accompanied with eating habits based on the increase in protein consumption. Depending on a model that had prevailed demand-driven or supply-driven respectively. In the latter the offer acquiesced to the demand (prevailing styles), and in the former the demand acquiesced to the offer (in the early stages of industrialization).

In later stages of the post-industrial, the second way has prevailed. Entrepreneurs, also thanks to the disincentives to pollute (PPP), had to internalize the negative externalities and therefore increase the average unit costs. This means that those firms move away from proper economic efficiency. Not necessarily the cost increase was reflected in prices. Maybe before disincentives governance has proposed incentives for the adaptation of plants.

The problem is complex and deserves careful consideration. This is my only an initial reflection.

sorry but i don't understand, sustainable entrepreneurship   is attached to social, and environmental efficiency and effectiveness and secondly to:  social and environmental  management in terms of economic driven integration.so we speak for economic, social and environmental prospects and economic - ecological and social- economic prospect to date .so i hypothesize that more inductively that is more specifically for sustainability management  sustainable production and consumption patterns are related with sectors of the economy like energy markets, water markets etc. where sustainable entrepreneurship  has sustainable production as its main pillar and in effect sustainable consumption as the minor pillar. in effect how can I be a sustainable entrepreneur if I do not have firstly sustainable production processes and/ or products /and or services and secondly an alignment with sustainable consumption patterns? for example I have a firm which specializes with energy products like biomass ovens, I will have sustainable production as my main pillar (if the market has the environmental social and economic and social economic , ecological economic prospect) and that will trigger sustainable consumption in effect if my customers are considering environmental friendly products as a sustainable desire I guess

I would understand if you're looking at the prospects of an underdeveloped country or a developed one.

Another point is to know if you are referring to a market economy or a planned economy without market. I seem to have to exclude the latter case. In all market economies, the state can intervene with fiscal policies, monetary and more or less direct intervention in the economy. moreover, it may also attempt to address consumer choices.

Macroeconomics explains the relationships between Consumption, Investment, Exports \ Imports and national income. There are economic laws that govern the relationship between the variables. The two schematic models I mentioned were trying to figure out how you can interpret those links and to establish which are to be considered as independent variables and such dependent. The economy is a psycho-social science, but still a science.

I am referring  to  a transitional economy which refers to a planned market economy of an underdeveloped nation that has to proceed to sustainable growth    through sustainable entrepreneurship (like radical ecological innovation due to market failures and the appraisal of entrepreneurial opportunities in the light of sustainability challenges) and i ask what will be the link with  the achievement of sustainable production that  must strongly be realized in order to motivate consumers, citizens etc. as the .. only .. solution...I hope you can answer to me depending from your background but if you don't have time that's fairly understood,

first of all, thanks all for the contributions. I think the question you advance is fairly complex, and the answer can be different depending on the perspective or theory one wants to apply.

I come from operations management, but I have also done some studies in economics. I don't have the answer in hand, but I think these are relevant questions to be addressed - that's why I want to provide some help (hopefully). First, I would recommend to specify more carefully the level of analysis and bound your research to a specific context (developed vs developing countries - developed vs developing markets -  local vs global value chains), as answers may depend on their different dynamics. Also, I would consider the following papers, which looks at different forms of sustainable entrepreneurship and at different innovative sustainable business models, and their implications. Finally, I recommend to take a look at the following report, focused on value chain dynamics and sustainable production and consumptions trends.

Sustainable entrepreneurship (SE) promotes sustainable production and consumption patterns through imaginative new solutions in terms of organization, processes, products and communication. SE is assumed to be characterized by a higher understanding of the deep nexus between ecosystems and socioeconomic systems, and correspondingly higher capacity to identify options and capabilities of both producers and consumers.

I want to know   if  economies of scale in emerging markets can signify  potentially prospects  for   traditional  local  economies  to achieve sustainable development  through comparative evaluation and in line with  local primary resources  use ,replenishment, and disposal .

like for example  electricity generation from fossil fuels and indications of sustainable development for the renewable sector in the same respect (public policy for the environment , co-participatory management, radical reform, ecological innovation , resource recovery)  etc. I try to be clear to this but I need some help so far. many thanks alex

Very interesting question...looking forward for new insights...For the moment, I so much agree with the elegant answer of prof. Scandizzo. I would be interested in the link with the RP (Resource Productivity) indicator...? How would you quantify sustainable entrepreneurship?

The key issue is the conception of sustainability…. And enterprise can be economical sustainable and not been using a sustainable production (examples some pineapple industry).

But is you use the concept of sustainability in relation to the environmental them the production, and the economical aspects need to be integrated.

The RP indicators are an interesting new development, that in part follows the attempt at incorporating environmental and resource stock measures into national accounts (as for example in the genuine savings methodology). One characteistic of these indicators is that they attempt  to measure resource productivity and decoupling of resource use from economic growth,  in an integrated way  as well as  distinctly at the macro and micro level (including the level of the firm or the entrepreneur. The challenge is to concentrate on material accounting without losing sight of the economic value of  natural resource use, resource productivity and the associated environmental impacts. Material accounting is especially important to valorize non trivial resource efficiency such as   3R resource productivity,(Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle) related flows , stock depletion or refurbishment and the associated environmental impacts concerning particular resources, materials or activities.

i believe the goal of quantification  is to relate income range with resource productivity in the long term. how to use sustainably raw materials has to do with resource efficiency and resource replenishment in the long term . more inductively I feel that its a matter of progress through ecological systems for efficient and effective (socio-economically and ecological economically ) markets that regenerate renewable resources and reduce reuse recycle non renewables. but nonetheless resource efficiency must properly refer to resource production and resource replenishment within a sustainable resource management approach in order to enhance environmental sustainability, that is resource efficiency must be systematically organized so as we avoid thresholds and achieve long term replenishment. So that's what I believe and so I guess you sound more logical to me than what I can estimate as you are more expert in this fields of science.
