Thank you for your attention, I plan to implant stimulating electrode into the dorsal-lateral portion of STN. However, I have some trouble about how to exactly target the electrode into this relative small region of rat brain.
May you please be so generous to tell me what are the coordinates used to target these neurons? Because I did not find the exact coordinated of it in the atlas of Paxinos and Watson.

You cannot really target the dorsolateral part of the STN in rats as it is to small. Furthermore, the devision of the STN in motor and associative/limbic part is in rat rather done between lateral and medial STN. I would not try to distinguish targeting the dorsal or ventral part.

If you use electrodes for stimulation you have to take care that the current does not spread over the whole nucleus, therefore bipolar electrodes and threshold detection would be recommended. See also Pubmed ID: 22330948.
You should not directly use the coordinates from the Paxinos Atlas but rather do a few trial surgeries and see where you tend to target.
