I want to measure the concentration of silver nanoparticle. I have used nitric acid to get the ionic silver but the concentration I got , did not match with theoretical value. Can anyone tell me what concentration of nitric acid I need to use and what is the exact protocol?
Hi Mohana, in our lab we add 10% in volume of nitric acid with respect to the final volume of the solution. For example if you use 25 ml flasks you can use 2.5 ml of nitric acid for the digestion. You can also increase the digestion time up to 72 hours and see if it makes a difference. I hope this helps
You have to be sure that the quantity of nitric acid added is enough to dissolve all the silver nanoparticles (in line with response of Omar Gonzalez). Also the nitric acid has to have some water. If the quantity of silver measured after a good silver dissolution is less than expected, maybe the nanoparticles have other compounds different to silver.
Are you assuming that all the silver was reduced to produce the nanoparticle to estimate your theoretical calculation?
I recently measured the Ag concentration using ICP-AES after synthesis of AgNP using microalgae. I used 5% HNO3.
