Most ceramics I know seem to last thousands of years, far more than many other substances claimed to be 'sustainable'. First - define sustainability in this context (or any context actually) - second define a way of measuring it even qualitatively. Then work from there.
You should look more into the "mass-ceramics", less into technical ceramics. Boron emissions from Glass and Ceramic industry is under discussion (emission limits). Currently there is no economic sorbent (state od the art ?? carbonates). Emission regulations are expected to come, but sorbents need to be invented.!! What I know: The glass / glassceramic company Schott in Mainz (Germany) has research on this.
