What if a crystal does not have SHG efficiency? Is there any other characterization available to find its application? Mostly reviewers are questioning about the crystals usage.
I do not think a characterization technique will tell you for what application you should use a material (you can use a specific characterization to check if a material may have a property of use for a specific application however.) Now outside this semantic discussion, what you need to think of to find an application for a material:
1) what is your material? (is it a known material? is it a modified version of a material(e.g. doped))
2) check the literature what this material is investigated for
3) check the literature what similar:
* same material without or with other dopant,
* other atomic species but same topology/stoichiometry (eg ABO2 if you are looking at SrTiO2)
materials are used/investigated for
That will give you a start. Once you know this, you will find which characterization techniques are used to check this property.
btw strange question of a reviewer, are you sure they aren't just asking you to extend your lierature research for your introduction of your paper?

At first, you need to check the symmetrical nature of the crystal. Depends on that, you can search for the specific techniques. For example, if your material is exhibiting centro symmetric space group. You can do Z-Scan analysis for the grown crystal. It will give you an idea about third order harmonic generation.
