Perhaps you need an old computer with 32-bit system, never used it with Windows 7, but you can try several compatibility modes in windows, if necessary.
I support the use of R package as suggested by Dr. Alan however the book mentioned by Peter on Ecological Methodology would also suffice if the data sets are not to large.
MS-Excel is a simple solution if you know algorithms, calculate yourself with a lot of flexibility for 10 samples (islands) depending on your objective. You need to decide which algorithms and why these algorithms you need to use.
