I am planning to synthesize boron nanoparticles and make surface modifications of them for biological applications. In literature, there are several methods but it seems that agglomeration of nanoparticles is a big dilemma for such particles. I need an efficient and time saving method for the synthesis.
Hi Ceren, the first thing is for what kind of partcular biological applications you're looking for? The rest is either you wanted to prepare 2D, 0D Boron particles?
I would recommend you to go for molten salt synthesis [MSS], for high scale production this is the efficient technique. If you're interested, let me know, Would send few reference papers for you. Cheers
You can also do Boron Sputtering by DC magnetron sputtering technique. In this process you can get uniform film of boron nanoparticles on any substrate.
Also you can follow Girolami's work which is also suggesting their functionalisation.

Hi Fabrizio, ball milled or mechanical milled methods for nanoparticle synthesis seem to me a little bit inefficient. Yet, microemulsion technique can be tried.
Hi Tanveer Ahmad, I am planning to synthesize 0D particles, yes, cancer therapy is one of the application of boron nanoparticles. I think, Molten salt synthesis can be a proper method for the synthesis of metal oxides, in literature there are studies for Si and Ge nanoparticles by using this method, but SEM and TEM images show the agglomerations and nonspherical shapes.
I read Girolami's work before. The size range of the particles are 10-150 nm in diameter, that is there are also large particles which is an unwanted case for biological applications.
