Essentially what you want to do is C-H oxidation. There are several research groups that specialise in this, but I don't think the field is developed enough to provide for definite conditions to do this.
As Michael has mentioned, synthesising from small molecules seem much easier
If you like to experiment you could try free radical bromination and see what kind of mixture you get. Then proceed eg. with elimination (to alkene) and epoxidation/hydrolysis to alcohol. Just some ideas.
