dermapen is very helpful in treatment of many dermatological disease. It is easy to use, not expensive .Efficient in treatment of post acne scar, also has good results in treatment of androgenic alopecia and falling hair, melasma. It is less pain than dermojet or using insulin needle
I started needling with tattoo devices similar to DermaPen in 1996 (after hearing about it from Andre Camirand). I have used virtually all of the devices as well as the riollers (in fact I am the peerosn who designed the first roller). All the mechanical devices have the same problem that one can over-treat. Fortunately I have never done that but unfortunately I am often consulted by patients or doctors who have over-treated. I think you cannot do as frequent treatments with the pen devices as you can with the roller. As Zeitter has shown, if needling is done once a week at 1 mm with a roller, you get significantly better results than doing three needlings at one month's interval. Always support the skin with topical vitamin A. Don't be tempted to needle at 2.0 mm. Rather use 0.8 to 1.5 maximum. I prefer the roller (Environ Roll-CIT) and have several hundred cases of needling with intervals greater than 3 weeks and found the results vaiable and generally not impressive. Then when I saw from Aust that the TGF-beta3 and IL 10 last about two weeks I decided to increase the frequency and got much better results. I have several thousand cases of needlings done one a week for a series of 6 cases and generally excellent results and I combine with vitamin A and a certain cocktail of peptides made by Environ Skin Care. I have used PRP but I wonder if the preparation is inadequate. Theoretically it should be good. Zeitter showed that using the Environ vitamin ACE Oil he got almost quadruple thickening of the skin. No other topical has had such an effect. Hyaluronic acid is often used and it does make the skin feel comfortable and better hydrated but I have not detected any difference in the results in half-face studies. The best device I have found is made in Germany and I personally use a professional tattoo artists device which gives me greater flexibility and up to 27 needles. I prefer the roller for safety, definite results and the ability to return to work the next days and still get an excellent result after a course of about six treatments. The pen devices are useful but don't be confined to them. Stretch marks, lax skin, acne scars are often better treated by a roller. I hope that helps.
Thank you so much for your elaborate description. Could you please tell me about the vitamin a serum or oil that you used,. Also, how to combine PRP with microneedling??
Pleasure Shaurya. I use the Environ Vitamin ACE Oil which is available in about 50 countries worldwide. Please see www.environskincare.com Its a high dose vitamin A but does not cause important retinoid reactions. It's one of the pioneer products with ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate and very high levels of vitamin E. I did the formulation and research work and it is beyond a cosmetic. I will be speaking about it in Cairo in April and we are busy trying to find a distributor for India.
When I combine PRP with needling I always try and inject it under the skin. I am not happy to put it on the skin and hope that adequate amounts will be absorbed. Its too valuable for that.
I started to use dermapen 6 months ago. I is more easy and fast to use than the dermaroller. Additionally, while applying the roller is usually needed a skin analgesia, it is usually not necessary for dermapen. I usually apply it to my patients for the purpose of skin rejuvenation or hair loss treatment. For these purposes, I prefer four weekly treatments (Consecutive 4 months, and an additional application in the 7. month). I usually use it in combination with vitamine E, hyaluronic acid or PRP. When use it with hyaluronic acid, the application will be more comfortable for you and your patients, because the device can be easier to move on the skin.
