Excellent suggestions  for me too,  thank you - can anyone please  comment on  whether  pan Europeanism  and Africa, ie Eurafricanism, is mentioned or implied  in any of  these? Whether the UK author suggests  pooling or associating its empire/African part of it e or stay aloof. Think there was at least one scheme along these lines? Comments in or on UK or European imperial  studies in French and German welcome. Am aware of recent book on Eurafrica by Jonsson and Hansen.

Edgar Feuchtwanger and his Democracy and Empire: Britain 1865-1914 is always a good choice.

For critique of imperialism from social-liberal standpoint please look John Hobson Imperialism: A Study. 

Interesting opinions you will find in Churchill's published correspondence and biographies of Lloyd George.

Other worth mentioning books are:
