There are now many research papers on prototype exoskeletons for upper limb rehabilitation in patients with stroke survivors, most of them concern issues related to the design of the different components: actuators, interface and control systems, however only few of them include a deep clinical evaluation. Can anyone recommend me some research work published on the most comprehensive clinical evaluation of upper limb rehabilitation in patients surviving a stroke with the use of exoskeletons?
I suggest you two papers:
1- "Positive effects of robotic exoskeleton training of upper limb reaching movements after stroke", Frisoli et al., 2012 -> for clinical assessment the authors use common clinical scale (such as Fugl Mayer) and kinesiological performance parameters.
2- "A post-stroke rehabilitation system integrating robotics, VR and high-resolution EEG imaging"., Steinisch et al. 2013 -> authors propose, but don't evaluate with patients, a system for the neuro-motor rehabilitation of upper limbs in stroke survivors. They propose to analyze both kinesiological data and HighResolution EEG for the outcomes evaluation.
3-"Functional recovery in upper limb function in stroke survivors by using brain-computer interface A single case A-B-A-B design.", Ono et al. 2013 -> in this case-report study the outcomes are evaluated also with cortico-muscular coherence
Dear Michele, I appreciate your kindness. your suggested papers will be very useful for the research we do focusing on developing a robotic training system and quantification methods for upper limbs rehabilitation in clinic environments to be used in survivor stroke patients with motor disorders or loss of physical strength on one side of the body.
