We are studying how a course in our sports/PE teacher education, called ”Football across cultural boundaries”, can contribute to develop the teacher students’ cultural competence. We would like to use focus group interviews in order to evaluate whether the students have developed these compences.
Our definition of cultural competence is based on the article: "ISSP Position Stand: Culturally competent research and practice in sport and exercise psychology" (2013) by Tatiana V. Ryba, Natalia B. Stambulova, Gangyan Si & Robert J. Schinke.
Hi Soren, a couple of responses. First, I'd suggest you consider what kind of evaluation you are planning to do and whether you are looking for qualitative/and or quantitative answers. For example, are you looking for the extent to which cultural competence is achieved or in what ways cultural competence is achieved? I'm guessing it is more likely to be the latter. Second, have you considered a theory of change or a logic model for the program you are looking at? This will help determine what kind of outcomes you can reasonably expect. Have a look at the following references:

This is not an exhaustive list, though you will get an idea of what might be required. If you are looking for specific examples of questions to ask, I doubt you will find much, unless of course the program has been used elsewhere. I'd also suggest you use this experience to learn from the program (in a formative sense) to see what could be done to make it more effective. Good luck!
