I'm going to do a mass culture of local strain microalgae (freshwater) and Chlorella sp in a small raceway pond, about 3000 L volume. Can anyone recommend good references for the formulation of mass culture media? Especially some papers explaining the macronutrient ratio. I'm using Bold's Basal Medium for lab scale, and i'm planning to use commercial fertilizers (NPK) to formulate a mass scale medium.
I am suggesting the Walne medium. I have cultured marine and freshwater microalgae using this medium and it worked. I can cultivate until 40 L using Walne. But still you need some adaptation for the algae, especially if the medium you initially used is rich-nutrient medium like Bold Basal or BG11. Walne medium is much poorer in nutrient, but it will be much cheaper for big scale cultivation. Hope this helps you
