For my DNP capstone project I plan to run a focus group related to allowing infants of incarcerated women to remain with their mother's after birth in order to form secure attachment.
There are several excellent books and publications on focus groups that you can access. The publisher, SAGE, has a number of them. I have used several and found that the "Focus Group Kit" which is a collection of several booklets by David Morgan and Richard Kreuger is a great starting point. Also, I found that the book by Rosaline Barbour, "Doing Focus Groups" was helpful..though not as much to begin with. Finally, my graduate students have benefitted from the following:
Guest, G., Namey, E.E., & Mitchell, M.L. (2013). Focus Groups. In Collecting qualitative data. A field Manual for Applied Research. (pp. 172-222). Thousand Oaks, CA: Sage. and Wilkinson, S. (2011). Analysing focus group data. In Silverman, D. Qualitative research (3rd Edition). (pp. 168-184). Los Angeles: Sage.
My Sage "little blue book" on focus groups is less than 90 pages long. If your university subscribes to Sage Research Methods Online, you will find it there.
