I have a data set, X and Y, where I apply a linear regression. I would like to estimate the Y value out of the data set by data extrapolation. Using the obtained linear function is easy. However, I need to estimate the error of the extrapolation. Can anyone to help or recommend a good statistical book about this theme?
You can calculate the 95% Confidence Interval or 95% Prediction Interval for the linear regression and estimate the range of values at the extrapolated point. Calculations can be found in Elementary Statistics, 7th Ed by M.F, Triola and in Basic Statistics and Pharmaceutical Statistical Applications 1st Ed by J, E. DeMuth (newer editions are avaiable). This type of calculation is commonly used in pharmaceutical stability studies.
I think you are not allowed to use linear regression for extrapolation. Please check the validity.
You can also use a F and t-test (ANOVA) in order to evaluate the difference between your model and your experience. you will get all your desired data
