GenBank (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/genbank/) has many many chloroplast gene sequences of this species. You could try amplifying chloroplast DNA and look for sequence polymorphisms. You could select PCR primers from my database on the web:

and do PCR plus sequencing, or RFLP.

But this species looks interesting, as it is self-incompatible. Microsatellites would be an interesting thing to study. If you can get someone to sequence some genomic DNA for you in one of the high-throughput machines, maybe after a simple enrichment step, you should get loads of candidate sequences for microsatellites. You wouldn't even have to send DNA abroad, I see the fruits in my supermarket frequently.

Finally, Prof. Susanne Renner in Munich seems to have done some work on this plant family (she is mentioned in the top entries that came up in the GenBank search).

A general, quick and cost effective idea of molecular genetic diversity in any plant species should be possible using ISSR-PCR, which is based on use of short repeats as primers and are multilocus markers with more accuracy than RAPD. attached review in Euphytica 128: 9–17 might be useful.
