I have electrodeposited ZnO nanorods on ITO. Now I want to deposit CdS nanoparticles on these by electrodeposition. But I am confused what is the actual role of ZnO nanorods in ZnO/CdS core-shell? If there is ZnO thin film or Direct CdS layer on ITO, then how this structure will be different than above. How ITO/ZnO nanorods/CdS structure work as solar cell? How can we use ZnO/CdS core-shell nanorod array for photovoltaic application?How CdS will sensitize the ZnO nanorods? How can we do the maximum coverage of ZnO nanorods by CdS nanoparticles? Finally I want to do work for attached file. How this structure work as tandem solar cell?

The actual role of the CdS in that structure is light sensitization (increasing absorption) of ZnO nanorods. The another role of CdS is the band bending to drive the conversion process. In our previous studies, we have sensitized ZnO nanorods by CdS, In2S3, and CuInS2 for photoelectrochemical water splitting applications. However, you can derive these systems as a photovoltaic cell as defined by yourself.
