I am working in License plate detection and I want to compare my work to other license detection software and I will use this comparison as a reference in my paper.

Q-Free / Dacolian claims to have the 'best' product. I don't know whether they support matlab-demo's or public benchmarks.
This might be too tangential, but I saw this article yesterday on Google uses training an 11 level deep NN to recognize house numbers up to five digits all at once without breaking the image into different digits. Are you working only on the detection of licence plates or does it also include the character segmentation and recognition part?

I have no idea how it compares to state-of-the-art sorry, but better than nothing i suppose :)
