I evaluated the reduction power of a plant extract according to Oyaizu et al, and found an absorbance of 0.221. How should I interpret this power in the context of protective effect of this plant in stress oxidative state?
You need to compare your 0.221 absorbance against standard (serial dilution of ascorbic acid) or control samples (extracts from other plants). The higher the absorbance, the greater the reductive capacity. Also, how much plant extract did you add to achieve 0.221 absorbance? Normalize data by protein concentration of extract or some other endpoint so you are making a fair comparison. Plants and most animals naturally produce ascorbate, so there will always be some reducive capacity in the extracts.
