thanks a lot! it is a really useful paper but they present Bulimina costata not Bolivina.

Yes, I have all these papers. I was wondering if this species is reported somewhere else or just Peru-Chile. But it seems like it is only there, which is quiet surprising. or maybe it is called something else which I haven't found any synonym yet. 

Well I will clean the dust from my old books, I am not sure if that species has been reported for the NH. By the way do you have access to the Thesis from I McCulloch 1977 (Qualitative observations on recent foraminiferal test with emphasis in the Eastern pacific vol 1 to 3) ?? may be there you can find something.

After a fast look I found a quite cryptic reference of Zabert 1978, reporting B. costata for the Paraná area (Argentina). (Totally worthy give a look to the works from N Malumian or the publications from E. Boltovstkoy  during the 60s and 70s)

Maybe you should try to look at the papers of Bandy & Arnal and Bandy & Rodolfo (sorry, I do not have the dates). Another possibility is consulting the USGS papers of Smith (1963,1964). A final recourse could be the compillations of Culver & Buzar at Smithsonian Press.

Since type species of genus Bolivina: B. plicata and the species under discussion B. costata were described at the same time (hand sketches,1839) and the original material of d'Orbigny cannot be retrieved, Foraminifera experts have created Neotypes, Syntypes etc to firm up nomenclature conforming to original protologue of d'Orbigny (see link below). You need to make your own independent judgement concerning the taxonomy and the nomenclature of these two species as you are dealing with type area (providing SEM pictures). Apparent occurrence of B. costata only around Peru-Chile region seems rather baffling.

thanks a lot for the helpful answers. Regarding to the references mentioned: I checked all of them, its distribution on Peru-Chile margin is well documented and seems like accepted.  I just wanted to see  & understand what kind of environments this species like, so I need to see if its distribution is documented except SE Pacific. 

Syed, thanks for the clarification and the link you provided is really helpful. 

I also recognized that some studies preferred B.plicata, but since there are not always images provided you can never be sure. in case of Peru margin, the differences between these 2 species are so obvious, it is a rather surprise for me.
