I recently noticed something I've never seen before in my 14 years working with cell lines. I'm a bit unsure what to make of it. I've seen an infection or two in my time, but not like this (if it is an infection, but I'm guessing it is).
Nothing is floating around, but it looks like there is a "mesh" or "filament" like background, both where there are cells, and where no cells (HTLA cells). THe cells are growing with Pen/strep and hygromycin B + puromycin (maintaining stabile expression).
Sorry for the image quality, the cell room doesn't have a camera mounted microscope.

The quality and the magnification of the photo is giving me trouble to diagnose the source but to me it's look like a bacterial contamination. Can you provide us with a higher magnification photo so it will be easier to distinguish what it is?
While you go with higher magnification, try to see if this is moving it can helps determine what you are facing.

It doesn't look to move around (I could get a slightly better view looking directly through the ocular than by my cell phone camera as attached), but unfortunately, we don't have a better microscope or higher magnification objective. Not optimal for asking the community for assistance, I'm afraid...
But thanks for the suggestion. We'll do a thorough cell room cleaning, and ask all people using it to toss any open medium/PBS/etc., and hope for the best.
