Presently, I am working in the area of catalysis and recently I synthesized some heterocyclic compounds and for collecting nmr data for such compounds C6D6 is found to be an appropriate solvent but since this is quite expensive can anybody suggest me some other solvent that I can use for the same?
go for DMSO-d6... if your compound is water soluble than try D2O also... hope that will help..
though my compound is soluble in CDCl3 but while collecting NMR splitting pattern is not appropriate also some peaks are are supressed. So, i think using CDCl3 is not a good option.
Maybe, try CCl4, even if the solubility of your compounds is low. DMSO and D2O may contain acidic impurities and cause disappearance of some peaks (even of protons, connected to carbon atom).
Andrey, pure CCl4 its not a good idea. A deuterated solvent should be used anyway. I'm not heavily into NMR spectroscopy, but as those guys who are NMR nerds ;) told me its important to use d-solvents. DMSO never contains acidic impurutuies, most acidic protons dissapeaed due to the simple fast H-D exchange. CCl4 in the mixture with DMSO is lower the viscosity, but pure CCl4 is not a choice - if one could not reach the solubility of 10 mg per 0.7 mL at least, peaks will be broadened or split. IMHO
These compounds don't dissolve easily in deutered solvents. Try DMSO and try D2O as two separate trials. And then, compare the results. You can also try to find if you have access to other d6 solvent eg EtOD or CDCl2. They may be more expensive but sill less than C6D6. Good luck!
About CDCl3. Some cases when my compounds, imidasoline type (clear for TLC) in solutions of CDCl3 gave the "unpury" or "all desroyed" specters. This was by existing of acid or(and) oxidative impurties in CDCl3. After filtration of CDCl3 throw the column with active (basic) Al2O3 unpleasant "solvent effects" said "good by" and run off.
Zofia A. Dziuganowska: i thank you very much for your kind reply but with DMSO-d6 solubility of my compound isn't that good also, aromatic region protons are coming together i.e a big hump kind of peak is being observed.
I think deuterated acetaone will work, finally it depends on the type of substitution on the indolizine molecule as the nitrogen is less shielded compared to other heterocyclics
Gunjan! i think CDCl3 is the best solvent for your compounds. You have mentioned that some peaks got supressed in CDCl3. I would suggest you increase the amount of compound while submitting sample for NMR.
