This is highly interesting question. You can modify your powder with amine group in solid state form. In this case your iron oxide will coated by amine functionalized silica with different surface coverage thickness but not be dispersed into silica matrix which often obtained by bulky sol gel route.

For that you need to go for special modification technique directly done on the particles surface this will be the first in literature. I will post you more detail later if you asked for.

As far as I know it is not possible to functionalize Fe3O4 with amine group directly and usually aminosilane derivatives are used for this purpose. See for example the following reference:

As you have mentioned previously, I need more details about the functionalization of pristine Fe3O4 nanoparticles with amine groups which is prepared from an ordinary amine such as MEA without any Si.
