Can anybody suggest me to find out the reason behind the continuous absorption of UV light in biomass carbon? How to interpret the following absorption spectra?
Biomass Carbon absorbs UV light based on its chemical and physical properties such as:
- The chemical composition plays a great role in UV absorption. The double bonds and aromatic compounds do absorb UV Light
- The absorption also increases with an increased surface area of the biomass
- Many components of biomass carbon such as lignin, cellulose, and hemicellulose, contain chromophores that absorb UV light
What does your sample look like? If it is almost intransparent upon check by eyeball, it wouldn't be a surprise that it absorbs almost everything when you measure the absorbance in transmission geometry (correct me if you used reflection).
So, in order to get more characteristic information, try diluting your sample or reduce the thickness of the slice.
Could you explain how you mage your measurement?
I suspect that this is reflectance, R, which means that to show Absorbance (which has no units), you should calculate
