I want to know what Remote sensing software is suitable for the research and all the processes that are involvde in the study.
The thermal bands of the ETM+ data should be helpful. Any good image processing software like Erdas Imagine or ENVI should be capable of processing the data. Hope this helps. Thanks.
You may try with the following steps:
(1) Retrieving land surface temperature (LST) (see Landsat 7 Science Data Users Handbook for details, http:// http://landsathandbook.gsfc.nasa.gov/)
(2) Defining the extent of the urban area you study
(3) Calculating the mean LST of the urban area
(4) Calculating the mean LST of the rural area surrounding the urban area
(5) Computing the LST difference between (3) and (4).
The result is called the urban heat island intensity. The greater the difference, the stronger the urban heat island phenomenon.
