the mentioned engl. key is absolutely useless for this tropical lichen from the W. Ghats. Try to start with the "Microlichens" written by the famous indian D.D.Awasthi. TLC needed. Picture unsharp shows no detail. Determination not possible. Thallus looks byssoid? Perhaps then Dichosporidium/Cryptothecia/Stirtonia or something totally different.
The photograph is not good enough to identify it even up to genus level. A good close up photograph may be helpful in identification (if chemistry or anatomical study is not required in the group). If possible part of collected specimen may be sent either to Dr. D.K. Upreti/ Dr. Sanjeeva Nayaka (CSIR-NBRI, Lucknow) or to BSI, Allahabad.
Thank you very much Drs. Felix, Suzana, Dries, Adriano and Robert for your kind responses. Basically I am working on algae and mangroves but not on Lichens. In our department also no body working on Lichens. As an academic/ general interest I am collecting lichen materials. In our region Roccella montagnii hanging from the palm plants. Dipnaria applanata is attached to the palm plants like above photograph. And I strongly believe RG is a good platform to learn new things and exchange views.
Thank you Dr Sinha for your advice, as suggested by you I will send this material to NBRI and BSI further identification Thank you all.
I am very interested to receive material from species of Arthonia and Arthothelium. If you have the possibility to collect and send it I should very pleased to study the material.
I tend to agree with Robert. But, maybe you can get in touch with the authors of an article on lichen status in Gnat: Lichenology Laboratory, National Botanical Research Institute,
Sorry but I recomend again: look in the picture collection on http://lichenes.net for images+micro+tlc. It seems not to be used an I could erase it as well.
Thank you Dr Felix, I have an opportunity to go through all your work, I have seen all cross section of the different Lichen species along with macro photographs. It is really excellent, if possible i will prepare and send the micro photograph of the above specimen. Thanks a lot Sir.
Dear Dr Dries, if i will get the Arthonia and Arthothelium in our region, I will certainly send to you. Thank you
