Scientists at University of Michigan - School of Dentistry - have (animal studies) isolated a particular bacterium (molecular level). This so called NI 1060 was inducing osteolysis in tissues of the jaw.
The reason of reaction is explained thisway: A tissue-Nod- 1-receptor-protein-sensor-molecule against NI 1060 works activating neutrophils, and osteoclasts too.
I personally have long sought whether the NI 1060 has to be called specific. But so far we have no clues. Univ Michigan also says that special attention to the bacterial contamination of the entire oral cavity has to be considered. We think further.
