I have a solution containing about 0.5% Silver-stabilized hydrogen peroxide, 40% ethanol, water and glycerol. Is this solution effective in killing viruses, especially coronavirus?
because silver sulfadiazine topical ointment or cream is used with other treatments to help prevent and treat wound infections in patients with serious burns and it works by stopping the growth of bacteria that may infect an open wound, therefore I don't think it can stop the devastating effect of the virus on the body.
1. The presence of silver does not contribute to the sanitizing effect. That comes from the alcohol. Its final concentration should be 80% (ethanol) or 75% (isopropanol), see attached WHO recipe.
2. I find the claim that Ag+ stabilizes H2O2 very dubious, never mind the claims by the Chinese manufacturer. In fact, depending on the pH, it may be a catalyst for decomposition, see the reference below.
