Most of the academic journals take so long just to review the research paper, and most of the times they reject the paper. I was wondering if any researcher can send his paper to two journals, just to make sure that one journal will accept his paper, and in case both accept the research paper, can the researcher request just one of them to publish his research?

It's unethical. While submitting a paper, author Certifies that the paper Or a part of it has been submitted or under consideration elsewhere. Therefore, until authors did not receive any confirmation regarding acceptance or rejection of the said paper, one should not submit it to another journal.

As all others mentioned above, it is not a recommended practice in the sentense of publishing ethics. On the one hand, reviewing a fresh article is not an easy work for even an experienced reviewer. It takes a plenty of time and labour. So, if you submit it to two or more journals simultaneously, then how many people have to worry about your single article? This includes editor in chief, associate editors, and other editorial staff in addition to reviewers of all journals you submitted. Despite the number of journals you submitted, it can be published only in a single journal if it is accepted. Therefore, you have to withdraw your article from all other journals. This means you kick-off the all efforts made by the other journals to evaluate your article. I consider this is as a considerable academic offense. Although no one is going to take a legal action against you, it already damaged the fine flow of academic ethics. That's why somebody should not try this.
On the other hand, there are only handful of experts in very specific areas. Therefore, probably the article you submitted for two journals might be directed to the same reviewer. If so, the reviwer has right to report this to corresponding journals, and consequently you could be blacklisted from both journals or from all journals published by the publishers of both journals. To add more..... you can get the assistance of your colleagues in order to select suitable journal outlets to submit your article, you can use journal recommender systems, contact the editor if you have a doubt about publishing procedure of the journal, always try minimize potential flaws of your article. For example, language flaws. All these methods will lead you to minimize the publishing time in one way or the other, but remember since the whole process is not so easy, you need some patience as a matured author.
