Psychopathic personalities as defined in the ICD-10 and DSM series have traditionally been held to be outside the range of states considered mental illnesses. As such the position of many psychiatrists and psychologists has been that such 'personality disorders' do not respond to conventional treatments. Is this because there is a fault in the personality or perhaps because there is a fundamental fault in what is considered treatment?
