Can any dc-dc converter (boost or buck) without load resistance and with only output side filter capacitor work in continuous conduction mode (CCM) ? If yes, please tell me the conditions.
Output capacitor (Storing/Memory element) blocks the DC output and no further conduction will take place. Since no ohmic load (Consuming element) is connected at load side,Simply a DC buffer is present at the output.
Dear Mohamed A. Elgenedy, I am working on developing a modular multilevel dc-dc converter topology and I am attaching the schematic. Here, all capacitors C1, C2 and C3 are delivering power to load on time sharing basis. VH shows the load side voltage. Since load is not always connected to boost converter consisting of V1 and D1 and current i1 goes in DCM. Please suggest me is there any way to make i1 continuous, also tell me what further modifications you can suggest in developing the topology. The objective is to design a high gain, high efficiency dc-dc converter for renewables.
Try to search around the term dual active bridge. This concept allows you to tie two HVDCs of different levels via two back to back MMC converter with a transformer between them.
