I am looking for specific literature to understand what happens with the calcium levels during early LTP phase and Late- LTP phase. It is very well known Calcium influx is necessary for LTP induction but what happens during the maintenance phase of LTP or late- LTP phase, is my question. Are the calcium levels brought to normal levels during maintenance and if yes, then how?
Need to dig back, waaaay back to early stuff by Gary Lynch. In a nutshell LTP, NMDA activation, leading to influx of Ca, leading to initiation of Camkinase II intracellular cascade (among many other intracellular cascades) that eventually leads to more Ca channels on the post-synaptic membrane. When, I indicate digging back i mean to late 70s and early to mid 80s.

Similarly, good to check out Graham Collingridges review summary paper from 1993 Science. Is out of date now, but that means the story has simply been added to.... nothing in the paper is incorrect.
