yes there is ISBT nomenclature of blood group system . It is numerical only 6 digit first 3 for blood group & rest thee for antigen . For A of ABo Group it is 001001 but blood group symbols and blood group remain the same and ISBT nomincluture still not in practical
The symbol Rh represents the first two letters of the word 'Rhesus'. The factor initially reported by Landsteiner and Wiener as 'Rh', and was thought to be present both in rhesus cells and in human cells, was subsequently found to be Lw antigen and not the one now called Rh. The term Rh though a misnomer, was retained to define the human blood group system known as Rh-Hr system. The British workers, however, use C-D-E notation for this system. The choice of nomenclature is, in part, a choice between the Wiener theory of allelic genes at a single locus and the Fisher-Race theory of three closely linked loci. While the Rh-Hr notation is in vogue in USA, the C-D-E notation, which is convenient for the beginners to understand, is followed in UK and several other countries.
