I am working in a research about the resilience factor of buildings. I would like to know if any research about resilience factor applied in buildings design exists. Is it possible to develop tools using Artificial Intelligence?
You might get some results using evolutionary optimization. Some time ago, I've seen a presentation by practitioners of Evolutionary Computation, that claimed they started working on building design to satisfy some constraints. In particular, they were optimizing the way to design a building to optimize some metrics.
Unfortunately, I can't find the references in my notes, but I think it's reasonable: if you find a working representation of a candidate solution for your problem (e.g. a way to design a skyscraper), and a way to evaluate the goodness of a solution (e.g. simulate or compute a metric for the resilience), then you can apply an EA to the task.
UPDATE: I found some references, even if they look more focused on single aspects of optimizing a layout, instead of the whole process. But they might be a starting point.

Evolution Strategies has been used in many empirical contexts. I am not aware whether or not ES has been used in this context yet. However, ES has been successful with a wide range of problems.
