which of HPLC and GC-MS methods has better performance to identify components in this material?

If you don't know which type of organic compound means, generally you check the complete solubility of your compound and test sample with LC-MS , Then you may get clear idea.,
In-Fact both will be good, LC-MS means you can possible to identify the mass of your all component present in system.,

I agree with the above two comments. Another important point is the library you can compare to. A lot of time the method is not going to give you what component you have in the sample but fragments of the component with modifications. If you do not have a good library then you can have a lot of signals with no clue what they are. As an analogy like you got a fingerprint but without databank in the system you can not figure out who commit the crime.

First take take sample and do analytical LC-MS then you can able to find some major product, by using this record you may able to know what you need, after that you try HPLC and collect all major peaks and do analysis.,
Depends what are the components. Both methods have their advantages...
It depends what you want to look at. For smaller molecules GC-MS is good as the method development is quick and easy for this kind of material and, with a suitable sample preparation method(s) and column(s) good separations can be achieved for both polar and non-polar components. For larger molecules HPLC-MS/LC-MS is essential as these are not detected by GC-MS. However, method development for a mixture of unknown compounds without fractionation can be very time-consuming. If you have some idea what is in your material you can do some preparative chromatography to separate out different types of compounds and then run the fractions by HPLC with appropriate methods for those analytes.

Both techniques are good. The choice of techniques depends upon the nature of compound. If you know the compound than HPLC is better, but if you don't know the compound,it is better and advisable to isolate your compound in pure form using Column chromatography and TLC, then run HPLC, GC-MS, IR, and 1HNMR for the complete structure elucidation of your compound.
