Hi,
I want to extract RNA form HeLa cells for PCR amplification of a 5.8kb large gene. Do you have any suggestions of what kit o use for the RNA extraction? Or would you go with trizol protocol? Its important that the RNA is of very high quality.
I would really appriciate suggestions and tips.

Any kit, or Trizol, will have no problem extracting any mRNA from HeLa cells. Getting high quality RNA from cells should be straight forward.
I would recommend any Qiagen kits (such as RNeasy or miRNeasy, micro or mini scale) as they work very well in my experience.
The extraction kits suggested by Christoper are good for total RNA from HeLa cells. I currently using the miRNeasy for RNA extraction on different cell cultures (HEPG2, HT29, etc..) with very good results.
To verify the quality of RNA I found very useful a run on Bioanalyzer, in order to check RNA integrity and to exclude presence of fragmentation in your RNA extracts.

The Trizol worked very well for me. I preformed the extraction both on HeLa and fibroblast cells and it went perfectly. Thanks to Alessandro Benedetto also for your comments.
