Hello I been working with cyanobacteria cultures isolated from 20m depth soda lakes for over 2 years I have some pretty hard to isolate Pleurocapsales in BG11 solid media but they just grow sooo slow (2 day doubling time) any recomendation? Should I try IR as light source

BG11 is usually used for freshwater cyanos, your specimens originate from a soda lake with certainly increased ion and carbonate concentrations and also increased pH. Depending on the chemistry of the soda lake, other media may be used like Zarrouk´s medium. Zarrouk´s medium is often applied for cultivating Arthrospira/Spirulina originating from Soda lakes.
Alternatively, you may stock BG11 with NaHCO3/NACO3 and increase this pH.

I agree with Michael on usage of BG11, its most appropriate for freshwater species. At our repository at NFMC, we used to grow this strain in ASN III medium.

I agree that BG11 is excelent for cyanobacteria. We got a very good growth of Artrospira using BG11 at pH 9. C. Sant´Anna
