As a part of Industry 4.0, IoT also enjoys a vital position in smart technologies. However, with respect to power electronics, I have read that privacy over the internet could be a concern. Does this technology benefit us in power electronics /power systems domain? Are there any applications available?
This includes countless machines such as: mobile phones, coffee makers, washing machines and wearable devices that can work autonomously without requiring human input. IoT enables designers to make smart equipment and machinery so that they can track, log, monitor and adjust itself accordingly
The use of ICT, Industry 4.0 information technologies, including, among others, the Internet of Things in energy (including Power Electronics) technology allows the improvement of remote management systems (e.g. from a smartphone) with energy consumption in households and in industry, on production lines. In this way, you can improve smart home systems that manage energy consumption at home and the logistics of production and other business processes, as well as energy production systems in power plants.

As an example, I'm using IoT to monitor our power consumption and figuring out which device is using too much power. Also, it would allow me to be notify when power consumption is too high.

I will say yes IOT is highly beneficial, most especially when you consider Smart grid technology , the benefit of IOT to this aspect of power engineering cannot be over-emphasized.

Greater interconnectedness also provides greater chance for mischievious behavior by so-called 'bad actors' of which there always seem to be too many. And, of course, the bad actors don't necessarily have to be deliberately trying to bring down the system. Think of all the software bugs inadvertently introduced by legitimate software manufacturers. What will serve as the firewall to prevent system collapse in the IofT?
