I am synthesizing Barium Croconate Hydrate from Tetrahydroxy-1,4-benzoquinone (sodium salt mono hydrate).
The procedure consists in a solution of NaOH (120 grams in 3 L water) in which I add 75 grams of my reagent and 150 grams of activted MnO2. Reflux for 45 minutes. followed by filtration, add HCl (600 mL) and finally BaCl2 (150 grams).
My question is about the really beginning.
I am doing this reaction in a 1/75 scale. So, using 1 gram of Tetrahydroxy-1,4-benzoquinone.
Somebody who did this reaction in the past, is the Tetrahydroxy-1,4-benzoquinone supposed to solubilize in water? Mine doesn't, at least not in the current scale that I'm using (1 gram of Tetrahydroxy-1,4-benzoquinone in 40ml H2O + 1.6grams of NaOH).
Thank you so much in advance!
