Hi, I am working with cancer xenograft models in nude mice. I was using animals from Charles Rivers labs but recently Janvier Labs has came with the cheaper offer for their strain of Balb/c nude mice. They are not exactly the same as the ones from Charles Rivers and some people claim that their genetic background is not completely clear. do you have any experience with nude mice from Janvier? How you compare both Labs quality?
In recent years, the Mouse Genome Project has provided full genomic sequences of a variety of mouse strains and substrains, and the emerging data are increasingly valuable to help choose mice for your experiments. Each strain, substrain, breeding history can carry capricious polymorphisms or other genetic changes. Many such traps may be unpredictable, as the publications below, that span a 15 year period (note the lag between articles from distinct groups). In any case, changing mice midway is always a bad choice for the course of a project.
