What might be the possible reason why Balb/c mice are considered to be resistant to EAE?

It is most likely due to MHC II. The APC of Balb/C can not process autoantigens (MBP, PLP, MOG, MOBP, and OSP etc) and presented to autoractive T cells. In case some epitopes can be presented to T cells, the activated autoreactive CD4+ cells are not Th1/Th17 and can not induce overt clinical disease.
