As the driving force may be reduction of surface energy and can be exchange interaction but still I am not sure that some NP showing bigger grains with higher lattice strain.
Crystallite size and grain size are two different entities
Crystallite size is calculated using Bragg's equation (nλ = 2d sinθ), whereas Grain (or particle) size can be assessed from SEM images.
For nanoparticles, the crystallite size and grain size may be nearly same. The difference is observed because the nanoparticles formed are not completely crystalline.
