It can vary from person to person depending on affordable time and experience in analysing those available data. If there are co-authors bit more time might be required if they also wish to go through the manuscript in the process of finalisation.

Once I have collected the experimental data then generally with in a week data will be analysed. Then taking about 4 to 5 weeks the manuscript will be prepared.

So probably I need 6 weeks to prepare a manuscript once I have data with me.

In my opinion, the times of writing the manuscript may be related how much can you interest or how many hours can you continuously write your article?

It also depended on the format and the page limits of the publishers.

I mean some format is one column and its fonts are our traditional use fonts. Therefore, we can easily write such kind of journal.

However, some journals are two columns format and we difficulty need to pay more times for adjusting the figures, tables, and sub-sessions. Hence, there will take more times.

Also, some publishers limited the pages not more than five or ten pages. Then, you need to pay not too much days for it. On the other hand, some journals never limited the page. Then, if you want to write more details and many pages (more than 30), then, you have to take more days for writing your manuscript.

I think just writing the paper needed not too much times, the maximum maybe 3 or 4 weeks.

The more times we need is for performing the ground survey, data collection, experiment, programming, innovative modeling and simulation.

Depend up the researcher skills, language level to write in, references arrangement and printer quality as well the internet’s connections . If all these are in normal case it is need about 2-4 weeks.

If the article is single, it's about a month, but if you write with the co-authors of the article, it takes a week.

depend on your experimental data , for our data we need at least two month to analysis and write up.

Data collection, state-of -the-art, problem definition, innovation may takes certain long time.

Only the paper writing may not take too much time.

If someone is doing experimental work then design and fabrication takes much of time and then experimentation will again time consuming process for recording of the data. Lastly analysis and paper writing is to be done.

Around 2-4 weeks, depends on data to be analyzed, the discipline, the publisher (a conference or a journal), and researcher experience.

On an average, it tooks me around 12-15 days to produce a manuscript.

You have to prepare your lectures. You may have to rerun your experiments. Your students will have personal problems that you have got to give help with. You will have personal crises. You will find that your data analysis begs that more questions be answered. This is re-search, not search.

You will have to get someone to polish your English.

So, for planning purposes, take the highest of the above (average) estimates (8 weeks). Use a factor of safety of two, so double the 8 weeks is 16 weeks, to allow for handling emergencies and other exigencies that will only rear their ugly heads when you look closely at your data. If you finish in 8 weeks and there are no emergencies or exigencies, then use the time to check for any residual errors and read new literature for the next project.

It is very interesting question. Often we will find out during our analyze that data are not enough. Therefore let your experiment "open", if it is possible as long as you did not end your articl. In my field (electronics) it is relatively easy - do not break up the investigated circuit before completing the conclusion of the article :-)

Many positive factors affecting research writing, among them experience, subject, time of author. Whereas there are some negative factors like co-authors, journals instructions, language...etc

If you take more times and repeated review, you can obtain better than better article. It may take about one month.

The second time of writing a paper is easier that the first time. The third time is easier than the second time. You have done it before, so look at your 2016 diary or file dates to see how you are improving.

As a researcher, what is the time (in days or weeks) you need to write your paper, noting that you have the experimental data but without analyzing?

I only start writing after I'd performed the data analysis on data collected so that I know my result findings, hypotheses accepted / rejected, root cause / rationale of the findings, implication / outcomes of the findings, knowledge contribution etc.

Once I have the abovementioned, I will quickly write them down in my notebook in points form or in any diagram / table form as soon as possible regardless it is weekdays or weekends before I forget. Then I will touch up the points / diagrams / tables etc. in a format conforming to academic writing at a later stage when I'm more available.

It depends on a variety of circumstances some of them can even be the personal relations between the authors. For example, I have a couple of works (and believe me - those are of top-class) which we actually finished in 2004 NEVER PUBLISHED (good for the Guinness records Book). On the other hand if you devise an absolutely NEW method/approach - to write a paper often takes just a few days - because 2/3 of it is the method description-template.

Surely, Dr. Ian Kennedy I try as much as possible to write my research paper, although there are co-authors, to improve my writing skills.

I do not always actually write my own research but I try to do that as much as possible. I have benefited from the answers of experts and each answer adds to me more information in my current and future work.

In most cases planing, experimental and analyzing work represents the most part of research whereas the writing is a finishing touch of the whole researching task. writing is so important to display the work in the best configuration.

In my opinion, if you take full interest only in our article writing, you can finish in one month.

However, if you do other routine works, attend the meetings, then, you may loose the concentration in your paper writing and may take long time.

1. Be sure where would you like to submit your article (Journal)

2. Need intensive literature review to make a good discussion

3. Review other published paper how data is analyzed, based on these you can make some idea how would you like to present your data

4. Proper citations

So it may take at least one month.

If you are pursuing theoretical research, then no experimental data is needed but the time required to write a paper may take years to complete. With experimental data, the time required varies widely depending on the topic. I have written papers in less than a week and some in a year.

Four weeks for data analysis through manuscript preparation is fine. Time could extend to two more weeks for further corrections and polishing. Hope it helps
