Yes. I am intersted to caryout  colloborative research  on the selenium based minerals. Se based minerals are most interesting .We have done HP work on chacogenides and glasses, as well as crystalline solids.

thanks for your interest in (analyticallly focused) collaboration. Anyway, what is required first are samples containing naturally formed Se-bearing minerals. Nature and size of the minerals define the analytical techniques to be used to fully characterize the species.

Yes, I am very interested in collaborative research on Se-bearing research since I have published the well known paper on the complex selenium occurrence "The El Dragon Mine, Potosi, Bolivia". I have some expertise in studying ore minerals. Furthermore I still have a nice reference collection of polished sections of the El Dragon mineralization and others, which could be usefull for ongoing research.

 I am really interested to work on this ore mineral. I am working on ore mineral morphological, and geochemical characterization. I had characterized rutile, chrysoberyl, corundum, tin, hematite, and magnetite, and currently seeking for new research area.

I am interested in Se oxysalts of unknown structure (and new minerals) if you are involved with these. But not chalcogenides...but you seem to have several people interested in these....................Regards.............Frank.

Again, what we need first are samples hosting such minerals. To get the issue started, we would be happy microprobing polished Se-bearing material,  to figure out whether they contain species worth to be studied further.

Herewith I send the two of our El Dragon papers. Additionally you should have a carefull look at the Eldragonite-paper of the Paar et al.-group, which cited my El Dragon-paper. They are at the time the leading research group on selenium minerals. I still have more than thirty polished sections of our research inluding the new described and still unnamed) selenium mineral species. To date the selenium-story is very hot. But it seems to me that you are a bit late!?

I have some sulfide ores ( pyrites) samples from the Douala  Sedimentary Basin ( Cameroon. Can  selenium be found in those pyrites? This question is because, It is known that  selenium can replace sulfur in some sulfide ores.

what do myou mean with that I'm a bit late? If you think that Paar et el discovered all potentially new minerals, then it is certainly not worth to spent more effort on that occurrence.

Se kann replace sulfur in pyrite, but normally only in pyrite asscoiated with Se mineralization.

These minerals could be  native Se (Se0), krutaite (CuSe2), klockmannite (CuSe), mandarinoite (Fe2(SeO3)3·6H2O), Se-bearing chalcopyrite (CuFe(Se, S)2), and pyrite (Fe(Se,S)2).  Please refer :

Thanks  Förster . I would try to carry out trace element geochemical analysis of those sedimentary pyrites. I am really interested  using trace elementary abundance in ore minerals for their characterization and genetic study. I also use this method  as a tool for provenance study, and mineral exploration.

I'm looking for an explanation regarding the presence of trace amounts of Se in the bournonite-seligmannite (0.34 wt%) and jordanite-geocronite (0.3 wt%) minerals (the sample with this trace amounts is located in the shallow level of the deposit). The presence of Se is also observed in galena (0.33 wt%).

The microprobe measurements (Cameca SX-100) were performed on carbon coated polished sections using an acceleration voltage of 25 kV, a beam current of 15 nA. Standard for Se - Se Lβ (Bi2Se3).

No other reference about the trace amounts of Se or even Se-sulphosalts in the deposit.

The paragenetic sequence is: pyrite I → sphalerite (± chalcopyrite) → pyrite II + tetrahedrite-tennantite → galena → bournonite-seligmannite ± geocronite-jordanite → Au-Ag tellurides. LS to IS type deposit.

- The trace amounts are too low? (to be explained) (note: in other samples the content of Se is under detection limit (0.1))

- I know that the presence of Se-sulphosalts can be a reason of low  temperature and lower fluid pH, but here is not the case of these minerals.

- other trace amounts of Te and Bi are present.

***Later edit: now I'm looking at the Td-Tn minerals from the same sample, there is no trace amounts of Se.

small concentrations of Se in sulfides and vice versa, sulfur in selenides are quite common. Often such low concentrations remain overlooked during routine microprobe analyses. The same holds for the other two elements you mentioned. Selenium commonly gots mobilized from pelagic material if the interacting solution displays an increased oxygen activity. There are respective activity diagrams published in the literature that you should consult.

I know that is a very common in suflides, especially in sulfosalts (due to S Se). But I was wondering why in one sample (and only Gn + Bnn-Sel + Gcn-Jor, without Td-Tn series) I have Se concentrations and the other samples not. I think that concentrations has to do with the fact that is close and related to a second magmatic-hydrothermal activty (andesitic volcano intrusion) from where is the sample.

- I only assume, maybe other analyses may prove or not this hypothesis.

The problem is that I don't exactly know the paragenetical relations of your samples. If the Td-Tn samples are spatially and genetically displaced from the Se-bearing assemblages, then they may have another source. Or, the Se-free paragenesis formed at a lower oxygen fugacity than the others.  

Just to let those, who have subscribed to this platform know that raising this question so far resulted in the discovery of four new Se species, in addition to developing new connections and to strengthen existing collaborations. Thus, it was wortth the effort using Researchgate in this instance.

honestly, I'm familiar with your studies on phase relations of Pd-systems, also involving Se. Really nice work. Luckily, we were yet able to determine the structural properties of our newly discovered Se minerals on natural material. I would be happy coming back to you in case that we have located Se species too small to be determined for structure, with synthetically grown equivalents as perspective alternatives.

If you have access to interesting natural material (the Czech Republic has several perspective historic occurrences), I (we) would be happy to collaborate.

I have been working on natural selenium contamination present in the Nawashahr region of Punjab. Studies so far revealed transport of water soluble selenium species from foothills of Shivalik mountain range. We may explore natural selenium species in this area.

I am good in petrography of rock and mineral samples. I know that selenium occurs as native selenium, selenium oxides, selenates, and selenides. Both transmitted and reflected light microscopy of selenium-bearing phases may be very necessary. I can also obtain permission from my supervisor in Japan (University of Tsukuba) to carry out EPMA analyses of all studied samples in order to tally the optical and chemical properties of selenium-bearing phases.

Our offer was to support researchers, who have perspective samples, but have not access to state-of-the-art analytical techniques, in collaboratively studying their sample material. So what we are interested in are samples, the man power and analytcial network will be provided by us.
