I am working in the area of vehicle automation and autonomy. Just as drivers monitor the condition of the vehicle to predict performance (e.g., battery charge, oil pressure), future vehicles will monitor the status of drivers to determine whether emergency intervention (or lesser types) are indicated. I am seeing published research on facial feature recognition, pupilometry, gaze, heart rate, blood sugar, ... you name it!  Our goal is to include a sensor suite and appropriate reasoning capability in a vehicle so that it has insight into human driver health, attention, and predicted performance.
