Anatomy and the basic medical sciences have been Less a part of preclinical medical training over recent years. Some consultants think that upcoming doctors lack the core science foundation that they had as a student. I agree. I think there’s been too much degradation of the time and content attributed to the basic sciences. I think these are the bedrock for a successful doctor / surgeon.
Its high time there is a paradigm shift in the content of basic medical sciences. We have to strictly modify the content by reaching a consensus on what to teach. Its highly important to stress the anatomy needed for a clinician, than the anatomy for an anatomist. The syllabus made by universities should focus on this aspect. Same is the case of other basic medical sciences. The slashing of time required to teach basic medical sciences will have its adverse effect on the career of the doctor/surgeon.
No. The role of pre-clinical science and anatomy in particular has been degraded over the last 20 years to a point where not only is it inadequate for early surgical training but it has contributed to the lack of appeal of surgical training.
