This is an interesting question. There are several books on the History of Childhood that cite historical observations and texts on this subject. One such book:
The Origins of War in Child Abuse by Lloyd deMause in Chapter 7 (can find online) describes child abuse in tribal cultures but not specifically West African cultures.
Another article that I have seen looks at child sexual abuse in ancient Byzantium (See in Child Abuse & Neglect, 1999: CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE: HISTORICAL CASES IN THE BYZANTINE EMPIRE (324–1453 A.D.) by JOHN LASCARATOS AND EFFIE POULAKOU-REBELAKOU.
